The Great JRP Bake Off

14 February 2013

In support of Donor Awareness Week we have held ‘The Great JRP Bake Off’ and raised both awareness and money for a very good cause.

This week highlights the shortage of donated organs in the UK with the aim of encouraging people to join the organ donor register to save lives such as Jo’s goddaughter Carina Marcangelo. Carina is just 1 year old and was born with cardiomyopathy, a disease of the heart muscles.

Carina owes her life to the devotion, skills and expertise of the medical teams at the Royal Brompton and Great Ormond Street hospitals and she is the youngest child in the UK to have received an internal cardiovercular defibrillator (ICD) - as was recently fitted to footballer Fabrice Muamba, following his on-pitch cardiac arrest. This ICD has aided Fabrice’s amazing recovery but it is not going to be a long-term solution for Carina’s heart problems. To keep Carina alive, she desperately needs a heart transplant.

The standards of The Bake Off were high and after some great judging by Steve Gee (one of the perks of being Managing Partner…) the results were as follows:

3rd Place – Jo with very tasty sausage rolls
2nd Place – Jo’s mum with a beautiful cake
1st Place – (and winner of the very expensive trophy!) Calum H with a tiramisu that Gordon Ramsey himself would have been proud of

This award ceremony was complimented by Luis making his ‘3 minute cake’– amazing stuff.

Well done all and a big thank you for taking to your kitchens for this very worthy cause.
