2023 Winners: Hilton Metropole refurbishment projects wins the HAMA Europe Asset Management Achievement Award
We’re extremely proud to announce that our Hilton Metropole refurbishment projects have won the HAMA Europe Asset Management Achievement Award 2023.
The HAMA Europe Award is a celebration of the work that goes into hotel asset management and the winner was announced at the recent International Hospitality Investment Forum (IHIF) in Berlin.
John Rowan and Partners provided project management and quantity surveying services on both the Hilton London Metropole and Hilton Birmingham Metropole, alongside the additional role of principal designer for the projects.
The Hilton London Metropole
The Hilton London Metropole is Hilton’s largest property outside of the US, and one of the biggest hotels in London. We’re particularly proud of the projects HAMA win as the work was delivered through the pandemic with minimal disruption to the running of the hotel itself, that traded throughout the pandemic.
A total of 596 guest rooms and suites went through a remarkable transformation, including creating 40 additional keys. In addition, the hotel’s restaurants and bars were fully renovated and rebranded, while a brand-new executive lounge, gym and event entrance were developed. Extensive renovations have also been made to the hotel’s 42 event spaces and meeting rooms, including two dedicated hybrid meeting rooms and three ballrooms, which total over 4,600sqm.
The Hilton Birmingham Metropole
We served as project managers, quantity surveyors and principal designers on the full renovation of the Hilton Birmingham Metropole, the UK’s largest hotel outside of London.
A total of 617 guest rooms were renovated alongside the creation of five additional guest rooms, a brand-new restaurant and bar including feature terrace and a renovation and rebrand to the existing bar. The works also involved renovating the conference and events areas, a food and beverage venue with a feature glazed conservatory and terrace, and a brand new executive lounge. The health club and spa zone underwent a hard renovation and reconfiguration.
Paul Sherwood, Executive Director and Head of Hospitality and Leisure commented “It was a pleasure to be involved in this project and the award recognises the great teamwork and collaboration that made this project possible. It is fantastic for the project to have won”.
HAMA Europe established the award in 2016 to recognise the key role played by hotel asset management in sustainably growing asset value and driving underlying investment returns.
First-Round submissions were reviewed by the award committee, based on the variety of asset management levers implemented to drive the underlying investment returns, and the evidence of these returns being achieved.
The focus of the finalist’s selection was the breadth and depth of the asset management strategy and key metrics achieved in relation to the other project submissions received, with the aim of ensuring that those that are invited to the Second Round had the requisite detail to complete the detailed case study required for submission.
Further recognition
The awards haven’t stopped there for the Hilton London Metropole, since the refurbishment project the hotel has also been nominated for awards in three categories at the 2023 World Travel Awards. The hotel has now been nominated for Europe’s Leading Conference Hotel, Europe’s Leading Green Hotel and England’s Leading Conference and Event Hotel. We wish them the best of luck in these prestigious awards, which will be announced in September.
John Rowan and Partners are proud to have been part of this award-winning project and thank all parties involved for their teamwork, expertise, and collaboration.
